Captain Amarinder Singh: Captain Amarinder Singh, who has been the Chief Minister of Punjab twice, will start a new inning in politics today at the age of 80. Captain Amarinder will merge his party Punjab Lok Congress with the BJP today. In the ceremony held in New Delhi, his supporters, close Congress leaders, and former MLAs will join the BJP at the Bharatiya Janata Party's headquarters.

Some former Congress MLAs will also take BJP membership along with Captain

Along with Captain Amarinder, some former MLAs will also join the BJP. Out of these, the names three are Karan Kaur Brar from Muktsar, Harchand Kaur from Mahil Kalan, and Piramal Singh from Bhadaur. At the same time, Captain's son Raninder Singh and daughter Jaiinder will also join the BJP. However, Captain's wife and Congress MP from Patiala Preneet Kaur will not be present on the occasion. The big reason for this is that if she joins the BJP, she will have to give up the membership in the Lok Sabha.

BJP will be Captain Amarinder's fourth party

The Captain reached Delhi only on Sunday to join the BJP. On the one hand, the captain was preparing for today's show to be a mega show, while on the other hand, many senior leaders were busy assessing the profit and loss. This will be the fourth party politically for 80-year-old Captain Amarinder Singh.

This has been the political journey of Captain Amarinder Singh so far

Captain won the Lok Sabha elections for the first time in 1980 on a Congress ticket. In 1984, he resigned not only from the Lok Sabha but also from Congress in protest against Operation Blue Star. He then joined the Shiromani Akali Dal and won the assembly election from Talwandi Sabo in 1985, but after some time he again joined the Congress.

He was the Chief Minister of Punjab from 2002 to 2007. After this, Congress had to face defeat in the assembly elections for two consecutive terms. In 2017, Congress once again formed the government in Punjab under the leadership of Captain. But in September 2021, the Captain resigned from the post of Chief Minister due to a rift with Congress.

After this, he formed his own Punjab Lok Congress Party. He fought the 2022 assembly elections in alliance with the BJP but none of his party leaders could win the election. Since then, discussions were going on regarding the merger of the Captain's party with the BJP.
