The political and economic crisis in Sri Lanka is deepening. Protesters have stormed the Rashtrapati Bhavan, the Prime Minister's residence, and the Secretariat and have refused to leave. They say that we will not move until the Prime Minister-President resigns.

President will step down on Wednesday
President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has informed the speaker that he will step down on Wednesday. The deal with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is expected to be delayed. Without foreign financial aid, the condition of Sri Lanka is getting worse every day.
On the other hand, the main opposition party has decided to nominate Sajith Premadasa for the post of interim President. The opposition SJB has 50 MPs and needs the support of 113 MPs. If President Gotabaya steps down on July 13, a new president will be elected on July 20.
Unable to get good one-time food
People are not getting even one meal at a time. The prices of food and drink products have increased manifold. The prices of pulses have increased three times. The situation is so critical that there are situations like starvation and malnutrition. Due to lack of diesel, boats are not able to go to sea, due to which fish are not being caught. For many, this crisis has persisted for months.
There is a huge shortage of petrol and diesel
Most of the petrol pumps in Sri Lanka are closed because there is no petrol and diesel. In places where they are open, there are very long lines. Not only this, police and the army have been deployed to monitor the petrol pump.
The Petroleum Minister clarified on Monday that the consignment of diesel is expected on July 15-17 and petrol between July 22-24. That is, there is no scope for improvement in the situation before this.
Protesters are getting the support of the army
The protesters are being supported by the military and Buddhist leaders who were once very close to Gotabaya. Field Marshal Sarath Fonseca, who is participating in the demonstration, says that people have allowed me to participate in this demonstration. It's a matter of pride for me.
