Maharashtra: Uddhav resigns from the post of CM without facing the House, Fadnavis can claim to form government today

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, who was reduced to a minority by the rebellion of Shiv Sena MLAs, resigned on Wednesday night. Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari had instructed Thackeray late on Tuesday night for a floor test. Shivsena challenged this in the Supreme Court. But there was no relief from the court, so Uddhav came on Facebook Live and announced his resignation. Uddhav also gave up their membership in the Legislative Council.

Uddhav went to the Raj Bhavan late in the night and submitted his resignation to Koshyari. With the present pause on the political crisis of ten days in the state, the way has been cleared for the formation of a coalition government of the rebel MLAs of BJP and Shiv Sena. In fact, since Wednesday morning there were indications that Uddhav would not face the House due to the lag in the figures. In the evening, Uddhav's address in the cabinet meeting called suddenly in the middle of the hearing in the Supreme Court was like a farewell speech.

He thanked the ministers including Congress and NCP for their cooperation in running the Maha Vikas Aghadi government for two and a half years. Said, despite different ideologies, we ran a good government. He also thanked the staff of his office including the Chief Secretary.

Uddhav said, "Thank you for the cooperation during the tenure of two and a half years. Forgive me if I have made any mistake or insult. It is my party people who have cheated, which has led to this situation. Uddhav, who came out after the meeting, greeted the media persons with folded hands. During this, he appeared emotional.

Fadnavis can claim today

Former CM Devendra Fadnavis can stake a claim before the Governor on Thursday to form the BJP government. There are 106 BJP MLAs and 38 Shinde faction MLAs in the 288-member house. The majority figure is 144. The BJP also has the support of 7 independents including the Prahar Janshakti Party and 12 independents to the Shinde faction.

House is the only medium to resolve issues of democracy: Supreme Court

Refusing to grant relief to Shiv Sena, which has come to stay in the Governor's direction to prove its majority, the Supreme Court said, a floor test is the only way to resolve the issues of democracy.

Now saving the party is a new challenge, Hindutva card on the go: Aurangabad now Sambhaji Nagar, Osmanabad's name is Dharashiv

After losing the government, Uddhav now has a big challenge to save the party. That is why a few hours before the resignation, he called the cabinet and approved renaming Aurangabad as Sambhaji Nagar and Osmanabad as Dharashiv. The biggest allegation of the rebel MLAs on Uddhav is of withdrawing from the issue of Hindutva. Shiv Sena founder late Bal Thackeray was the first to demand a change of name of Aurangabad.

Uddhav's concern was also visible on Facebook Live. Whatever I do, I do for Shiv Sainik, Marathi, and Hindutva, he claimed. Shiv Sena belongs to the Thackeray family and no one can snatch it from us. Shiv Sena is mine and will remain mine.

I am leaving as I came

I don't feel sorry for leaving the chief minister's post. I have come unexpectedly and have gone unexpectedly. Means...not going forever, will stay here and sit in Shiv Sena Bhavan again, gather all my people. -Uddhav Thackeray

Supreme hearing for three and a half hours

Late on Tuesday night, Governor Koshyari had directed Uddhav Thackeray to prove his majority in the assembly at 11 am on Thursday. On Wednesday morning, Shiv Sena Chief Whip Sunil Prabhu challenged the Governor's direction in the Supreme Court. Senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, referring to the petition, urged for a hearing. The court fixed the hearing at 5 pm. After hearing for about three and a half hours, the court refused to stay the majority test at 9 pm. However, while issuing notice on the petition, said, the trial will be subject to the final decision of the petition.
