‘Names are tossed around merely to make money’: SP MP lashes out over Atiq Ahmed’s alleged portrayal in ‘Dhurandhar 2’.

Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar 2 has been a constant subject of discussion ever since its release. While on one hand, the film is setting new box office records, on the other, it is facing significant criticism. Some observers believe that the character named Atif Ahmed is based on the Uttar Pradesh politician and former gangster Atiq Ahmed, who was shot dead in 2023.

In the film, Atif is depicted working in collusion with Pakistan’s ISI and underworld don Dawood Ibrahim. Now, weighing in on this controversy, Samajwadi Party MP Afzal Ansari has accused the makers of Dhurandhar 2 of exploiting a real-life individual for financial gain.

They Drag Anyone’s Name into It to Seek Favors from the Government

Speaking to ANI, Afzal Ansari stated, “I have not watched the film. The film industry fabricates its own concocted stories; their narratives are not based on actual events. They do issue disclaimers. However, their sole concern remains the commercial success of their film.”

“When they seek to capitalize on a situation—to sell movie tickets and secure favors from the government—they are willing to drag anyone’s name into the mix. They have portrayed the character based on Atiq Ahmed in such a manner as if he had officially been declared an ISI agent. He is no longer in this world. Yet, regarding those who are still alive—who have created a false ‘paradise’ for themselves right here on earth and have committed crimes in league with Dawood Ibrahim—no films are being made about them. Consequently, the public can clearly see through all of this.”

Allegations of Dhurandhar 2 Being a ‘Propaganda Film’

The makers of Dhurandhar 2 have described the film as a work of fiction. However, the movie also references several real-world issues. This is precisely why the film is facing criticism; indeed, many people are labeling Dhurandhar 2 as a ‘propaganda film.’

Notwithstanding the criticism, the film is raking in massive profits at the box office. In just five days, the film has crossed the ₹500 crore mark in India, while also continuing to perform consistently well in terms of worldwide collections.
