Neeraj Chopra won the men's javelin throw event with a throw of 88.67m at the Doha Diamond League meet. The Indian athlete achieved the best figure in his very first throw. With this, Neeraj Chopra has created history once again.
Neeraj Chopra finished first with a throw of 88.67m, Jakub Vadlejch of the Czech Republic finished second with a throw of 88.63m, while Andersen Peters of Grenada finished third with a throw of 85.88m.
History
Neeraj's personal best performance is 89.94m which is also a national record. He had finished fourth with 87.43m in 2018 in his only participation at the Doha Diamond League in 2018. Neeraj could not participate here last year due to lack of full fitness and sufficient strength. He became the first Indian to become the Diamond League champion after winning the 2022 Grand Finale in Zurich last September.
Winners were made in Lausanne Meet
Neeraj did not participate in the first Diamond League held in Doha and the third Diamond League held in Silesia. He had set a national record in Stockholm by throwing the javelin at 89.94m, but he won the silver medal here despite this distance. He became the winner in Lausanne and now he has won the gold medal in the finals as well.
Neeraj, who won the first Olympic gold in athletics for India, aims to touch the distance of 90 metres. Whether he manages to do so in the first contest of the season remains to be seen. 2022 Commonwealth Games triple jump champion Eldhoj Paul will also challenge in the Doha meet.
