The opposition has agreed to support the government for the post of Lok Sabha Speaker. Congress MP Rahul Gandhi said that Rajnath Singh talked to party president Mallikarjun Kharge on this issue. He said that we will support the government for the post of Lok Sabha Speaker only if the opposition gets the post of Deputy Speaker.

Rahul Gandhi said that if the opposition is given the post of Deputy Speaker, then we will support the government in the selection of the Lok Sabha Speaker. Rajnath Singh has not yet responded to the opposition's demand for the post of Deputy Speaker.

What did Rahul Gandhi say?

It is written in the newspaper today that Prime Minister Modi has said that the opposition should cooperate constructively with the government. Rajnath Singh called Mallikarjun Kharge and asked him to support the Lok Sabha Speaker. The entire opposition said that we would support the Lok Sabha Speaker, but the tradition is that the post of Deputy Speaker should be given to the opposition. Rajnath Singh said that he would call Mallikarjun Kharge back but he has not done so yet. PM Modi is seeking cooperation from the opposition but our leader is being insulted."

Rajnath Singh met opposition leaders

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh spoke to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge late on Monday night and sought the opposition's support on the issue. However, according to sources, Rajnath Singh did not give any assurance to the opposition on the demand for the post of Deputy Chairman. There has been no Deputy Chairman in the previous term. Apart from Kharge, Rajnath Singh also spoke to other opposition leaders including DMK leader and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin.
