Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday held a meeting with the Board of Trustees of the PM Cares Fund. During this meeting, the role played by the trustees in taking this fund forward during the Kovid period was appreciated while Prime Minister Modi praised the countrymen for their generous contribution to PM Cares. According to the PMO, it was discussed in the meeting that PM CARES has a greater vision to respond effectively to emergencies and crises not only through relief assistance but also through mitigation measures and capacity building. The meeting was attended by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, former Supreme Court judge KT Thomas, former Deputy Speaker of Lok Sabha Karia Munda, and Tata Sons Honorary Chairman Ratan Tata.

It was decided to nominate former Comptroller and Auditor General of India Rajiv Mehrishi, former Infosys Foundation chairman Sudha Murthy and former Indy Corps and Piramal Foundation executive officer Anand Shah to the advisory board of PM Cares Fund.

During the meeting, a presentation was made about various initiatives taken with the help of PM Cares including PM Cares for Children helping 4,345 children who have lost their families due to COVID-19.

According to the PMO, the Prime Minister said that the participation of new trustees and advisors will give a comprehensive view of the working of the PM CARES Fund. He said that his vast experience in public life would give more impetus to making this fund more responsive to various public needs. It is noteworthy that after the outbreak of the Kovid-19 epidemic, the government established the PM Cares Fund to deal with any kind of emergency or crisis arising out of it.
