Jaipur, Jan 13 (IANS) The government-run schools in Rajasthan will now inform parents about their children's performance and attendance in schools on their cell-phones through short message service (SMS).
"This SMS system is going to be implemented in over 2,000 government schools across the state. As per the plan, the schools will inform the parents about attendance of their children and their performance in examination," said a senior educational department official.
He said the new system will help the parents to know if their children are bunking schools and how they are performing in examinations.
"There have been instances where a child goes out of his home, informing parents that he is going to school and never turns up at school. We want to give factual information to the parents so that they know how their children are performing," the official added.
Initially, two SMSes will be sent to the parents' registered mobile number and if there is no response from them, a representative of the school will call up the parents on phone and inform them accordingly.
Even the progress report of the children will be sent to the parents by SMS, the official said.
