Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday set a strong example by reiterating his commitment to a clean India by picking up garbage on the path of duty during the celebrations organized on India's 76th Republic Day.
This video is also being widely circulated on the Internet media and people are appreciating it. In this step, Modi also highlighted the importance of cleanliness of public places and community participation.
This step gave a big message.
It so happened that Modi was ready to welcome Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar as per the protocol on the path of duty. When he saw Dhankhar's vehicles coming towards the venue, he moved towards the entrance, then he saw garbage lying on the ground. He immediately stopped there bent down and picked up the garbage. After this, he cut that garbage into pieces and gave it to one of his security personnel.
It may have been a small step in appearance, but the message behind it was big. This step of Modi won the hearts of people on the Internet. Anyway, Modi has been emphasizing joining cleaning work from time to time to ensure 'Clean India'.
PM Modi saw the dream of a clean India.
This move of Modi was also particularly important because Modi has earlier also emphasized plogging (waste disposal) and community-led initiatives to realize the dream of a clean India. In November last year, he praised a blogging group cleaning the Ganga Ghats in Kanpur in 'Mann Ki Baat'.
In December last year, the Ministry of Defense organized a massive plogging program at more than 400 places across the country as part of Swachhata Pakhwada.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday paid tribute to the martyred soldiers at the National War Memorial here on the occasion of 76th Republic Day. The Prime Minister, along with the Chief of Defense and the Chiefs of the three armies, paid tribute on behalf of the nation by laying a wreath at the memorial. Modi was welcomed at the National War Memorial by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh.
