Bank Holiday Today, August 26: Are Banks Closed for Eid-e-Milad? Check State-Wise List Before Visiting Your Branch

Posted on 26th Aug 2026 12:12 pm by rohit kumar

Bank customers in several parts of India will not be able to access physical bank branches on Wednesday, August 26, as banks observe holidays for Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi.

The holiday commemorates the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad. Importantly, the holiday is not observed uniformly across the country. Bank closures depend on the Reserve Bank of India's holiday calendar and the location of the branch.

Where Are Banks Closed Today?

According to the holiday information cited in the RBI calendar, bank branches are closed in several states and regions, including:

Maharashtra

Uttar Pradesh

Delhi

Karnataka

Madhya Pradesh

Tamil Nadu

Telangana

In Kerala, banks are also observing a holiday for Thiruvonam, according to the applicable holiday schedule.

Customers should therefore verify the holiday status of their specific branch before making a trip, particularly for transactions that require physical presence.

Will UPI, ATMs and Online Banking Work?

Yes. A bank branch holiday generally does not mean that all banking services stop.

Customers can continue to use:

UPI payments

Mobile banking

Internet banking

ATMs

Other available digital banking services

These services generally remain operational even when physical branches are closed.

What About Cash Deposits and Cheque-Related Work?

Customers who need to carry out transactions requiring a physical branch visit should plan accordingly. Cash deposits, cheque-related services and other branch-dependent work may have to wait until the branch reopens.

Before travelling to a bank, customers should check their bank's local branch holiday information to avoid an unnecessary visit.

Bank Holiday August 26: Key Takeaway

The August 26 bank holiday is region-specific, so customers should not assume that every bank branch across India is closed. While branches in several states are observing Eid-e-Milad-related holidays, digital banking, UPI and ATM services can continue to provide access to essential banking facilities.
