Shubhanshu Shukla was selected by the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) in 2019 as one of the four astronauts for the country's first human space mission Gaganyaan. He has also trained at the Yuri Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center in Russia from 2019 to 2021.
Along with this, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also gave astronaut wings to Shubhanshu Shukla on 27 February 2024. In the Air Force, Shubhanshu Shukla has experience flying various fighter aircraft for more than 2 thousand hours.

Shubhanshu's wife Dr. Kamna Shukla is a dentist by profession. She is Shumbhashu's friend from school. Their love started blossoming during school studies. However, they also got married with family consent.
