Sidhu can come out on Republic Day: 1-year sentence in road rage case, jailed for 6 months

Posted on 28th Nov 2022 02:50 pm by rohit kumar

Navjot Singh Sidhu, who is serving a one-year sentence in a 34-year-old road rage case, may be released prematurely. Due to his good conduct, the government can release him on 26 January 2023. It has not been officially confirmed yet, but a few days back senior Raj leaders who went to meet Sidhu in Patiala Jail have informed about it.

According to the information received, a few days back a dozen senior Congress leaders had reached the jail to meet Navjot Singh Sidhu. A senior leader who returned after the meeting said that due to his good conduct, he can be released on January 26. He is in Patiala Jail for the last 6 and a half months. Where he is also working as a clerk sitting in his barrack.

The Supreme Court had sentenced 1 year

In the 34-year-old case of road rage, the Supreme Court sentenced former Punjab Congress President Navjot Singh Sidhu to one-year imprisonment. In an incident of road rage in Punjab in 1988, an elderly man was killed by Sidhu's punch. In this case, the Supreme Court had earlier acquitted Sidhu of culpable homicide not amounting to murder and imposed a fine of one thousand rupees, but while hearing the review petition, in this case, the apex court had now sentenced Sidhu to one-year imprisonment.

Surrendered on 20 May

Navjot Singh Sidhu surrendered on May 20 after getting the sentence. Till now, his sentence of almost six and a half months has been completed. If he can come out on January 26, then the sentence of about 3 months will be forgiven.

A few days ago a letter was also sent to the high command

As soon as Navjot Singh Sidhu comes out, the Congress high command can also assign him a big responsibility. At present, the command of Punjab is with Amarinder Singh Raja Wading. The Congress is yet to stabilize after the bad defeat in the elections, while the BJP is trying to break their senior leaders.

the journey will not be easy

As soon as Sidhu comes out, his path is not going to be easy. Preparations for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections will start within about a year after coming out. It is not going to be easy for Congress to persuade the rebels and their displeasure. As soon as Sidhu comes out, there are chances of many more leaders joining hands with the BJP because this senior leader has been speaking against Sidhu earlier also and is not even ready to join hands with him.
