Unilever withdraws Dove and Tresemmé shampoos, carries cancer risk; use with caution

World's leading FMCG company Unilever has withdrawn many of its dry shampoos including Dove and Tresemé. The company revealed that these shampoos contain the carcinogenic chemical benzene. Only after this, the company took this big decision. According to the information given on the Food and Drug Administrator's website on Friday, the brands that the company has withdrawn include Nexxus, Suave, Tresemme, and Tiggy. These shampoos have been used in the case of excessive dandruff on the head. The company has decided to withdraw those shampoos which were manufactured before October 2021.

This move of the company has once again raised questions about aerosol personal care products. Aerosol personal care products are products that are filled in plastic containers as liquid substances. Within a year and a half, many brands have withdrawn their personal care products due to safety. Johnson & Johnson withdrew Neutrogena. Apart from this, Edgewell Personal Care had taken back the Banana Boat. Apart from this, many companies have withdrawn their products.

In fact, under research conducted in May last year, it was claimed that the carcinogenic chemical benzene was found in these products. Only after that, this decision has been taken. This is not the first time a problem has been found with spray dry shampoos. Pantene and herbal shampoos have also been withdrawn from P&G. Unilever say that this is the reason why dry shampoo is being withdrawn. The company has not said how much of the carcinogenic chemical benzene has been found in their products, but has said to withdraw the products considering it as a threat.
