Chennai, March 23 (IANS) Firebrand MDMK founder Vaiko met suspended DMK leader M.K. Alagiri Sunday and sought his support in the coming general elections.
The meeting between the two leaders at Alagiri's place in Madurai lasted around 45 minutes. Some time back, the 63-year-old Alagiri had met BJP president Rajnath Singh in New Delhi.
Later, Vaiko told reporters that Alagiri was his "good friend" and long-time associate and that he sought Alagiri's support for the MDMK in the Lok Sabha elections.
The MDMK is now part of a six-party alliance led by the Bharatiya Janata Party in Tamil Nadu and opposed to the AIADMK and DMK.
Vaiko was earlier a senior leader in the DMK and was sent out as he was perceived as a threat to M.K. Stalin, the 61-year-old son of DMK president M. Karunanidhi.
Alagiri is Stalin's elder brother, who is also aspiring for the party's top post.
The DMK has been perturbed with Alagiri meeting leaders of other parties and has warned party men to keep away from him or face disciplinary action.
