WHO: WHO alerted on Omicron's new form BA.2.75, 30 percent cases increased in two weeks

The World Health Organization (WHO) has alerted India and some other countries with the confirmation of the new subform BA.2.75 of the Omicron variant of the corona. WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said that this new form of coronavirus has been detected in India and other member countries of the organization.

Ghebreyesus said in a press conference that in the last two weeks, there has been an increase of about 30 percent in new cases of corona worldwide. Four of the WHO's six sub-sectors saw an increase last week. The corona wave is going on in Europe and America due to Omicron's BA.4 and BA.5. Meanwhile, a new substrain named BA.2.75 has been detected in countries like India. This is being monitored.

New look found in 10 countries: Soumya Swaminathan

Upon detection of BA.2.75, WHO Chief Scientist Soumya Swaminathan posted a video on Twitter saying that a new subtype had been found. It is called BA.2.75. It was first reported from India and then from 10 other countries. There are only a few sequences available for analysis of this subtype, but few changes have been observed in its spike protein. So it is too early to say anything more about it now.

No decision yet on declaring a worrying form

Swaminathan said that it is difficult to say whether it can penetrate the immune system or is too complex to treat. So we'll have to wait. The World Health Organization and its Technical Advisory Group for SARS-CoV-2 Virus (TAG-VE) are constantly monitoring this. He is looking at statistics from all over the world. He said that at any point in time, if a virus comes to the fore, which looks different from the previous form and there is evidence that it can be called a variant of concern, then it will be done.
