Fatehpur Sikri, March 20 (IANS) Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) candidate Amar Singh, who is contesting for the Fatehpur Sikri seat in Uttar Pradesh, has offered to campaign for Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav in Azamgarh, the latter's hometown.
Amar Singh told mediapersons Wednesday evening he did not want the Bharatiya Janata Party to win from the Azamgarh constituency in the state.
Amar Singh, who parted ways with his erstwhile mentor in 2010, joined the RLD of Ajit Singh -- an ally of the ruling UPA and the civil aviation minister in Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's government -- earlier this month.
His roadshow in Fatehpur Sikri Wednesday, however, evoked a rather cold response. He faced numerous hurdles from district officials who wanted him to observe the rules of the game. To the disappointment of many, actor Jayaprada chose to skip the event.
The contest for the Fatehpur Sikri seat has become hot with the BJP reposing faith in the local heavyweight Choudhary Babu Lal.
The sitting member of parliament, Seema Upadhyaya of the Bahujan Samaj Party, had trounced Raj Babbar in the 2009 election.
The ruling Samajwadi Party has given ticket to Pakshilka Singh, wife of state cabinet minister Aridaman Singh, who commands considerable clout in the area.
The Aam Aadmi Party has fielded Mahavir Solanki, a farmer, for the seat.
