‘Dhurandhar 2’ Director Gets Relief in Plagiarism Case
According to a report by reports a single-judge bench of the Karnataka High Court, presided over by Justice K.S. Hemalekha, has dismissed a writ petition filed by filmmaker Santosh Kumar. In his petition, Kumar had sought the cancellation of the censor certificate granted to ‘Dhurandhar 2’. The Court found no merit in his petition and subsequently dismissed it.
The petition alleged that the film’s storyline was plagiarized from an original script titled ‘D-Saheb’, written by a Bengaluru-based screenwriter. Santosh had filed a lawsuit against Aditya Dhar, seeking monetary damages from the Court. He claimed that Aditya Dhar’s ‘Dhurandhar 2’ had extensively borrowed elements from his original script. Santosh Kumar Assures the Bombay High Court
In a separate defamation case filed against Aditya Dhar, Santosh Kumar has given an assurance to the Bombay High Court that, for as long as the matter remains sub judice (under judicial consideration), he will refrain from making any defamatory statements against the director. This statement was made by Kumar’s counsel before Justice Arif Doctor. The counsel clarified that while they would pursue appropriate legal action against Aditya Dhar, they would not issue any public statements regarding the matter. When Aditya Dhar’s counsel demanded that Kumar apologize for the baseless allegations of ‘theft’ leveled against the director, the filmmaker’s legal team refused, asserting that their complaint was entirely valid.
Notably, Aditya Dhar’s team had previously issued a legal notice refuting the allegations of script plagiarism as false. In this letter, while refuting the allegations of plagiarism, he warned Santosh Kumar to cease making such false accusations. However, having received no response to his letter from Santosh Kumar, Aditya Dhar subsequently approached the Bombay High Court regarding the matter.
