
Omicron's new sub-variant (BA.2.12.1) has been confirmed amid the ever-increasing corona cases in Delhi. However, nothing has been said clearly from the Ministry of Health on this matter. According to sources, a new sub-variant (BA.2.12.1) was found in genome sequencing of the test sample of a corona patient at the Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences, Government of Delhi.
Because of the increase in corona cases, the Delhi government has announced to provide free booster doses to the people of the 18-59 age group in all government hospitals. This order has come into force in the capital from Thursday itself. Booster dose has already been made free in Bihar.
At the same time, 18 people from IIT Madras are Kovid positive. A total of 30 cases have been reported here in two days amid the corona spike in some parts of the country. Health Secretary J Radhakrishnan visited the IIT Madras campus on Thursday.
At present, only children aged 12 to 13 are approved for Corbavax.
Meanwhile, the Subject Expert Committee (SEC) of DCGI (Drug Controller General of India) has recommended the emergency use of the Corbevax vaccine on children aged 5 to 11 years. The panel had a meeting on Thursday on the issue. Corbevax is the first indigenously developed RBD protein sub-unit vaccine by Hyderabad-based company Biological E.
Vaccines will be given to children only after the recommendations of the Expert Committee are approved by the DGCI. Currently, Corbevax is being applied to children in the age group of 12 to 13 years in the country.
A total of 12.66 crore children in the age group of 12 to 17 years were vaccinated.
The corona vaccine for children in the country was started on 3 January. Initially, Covaxin was being administered only to children aged 15 to 17 years. Corbevax was later added on March 16 for children over the age of 12. Overall, only two vaccines are being administered to children above 12 years of age in the country.
According to the Covin portal, more than 2.75 crore children in the age group of 12-13 years have been given vaccine doses. At the same time, more than 9.90 crore doses have been administered to 15-17-year-olds. That is, a total of 12.66 crore children have been vaccinated.
