Iyer does not have a single half-century in his last 13 Test innings. He scored his last half-century in the Dhaka Test against Bangladesh in December 2022. The team management can now try Sarfaraz Khan, who is consistently scoring runs in domestic cricket, in his place.

If we look at his 10 Test innings before the Visakhapatnam Test, his highest score was 35 runs.

Gill had been given an ultimatum
