This Test match will be remembered for years for Shreyas Iyer's brilliant debut and Team India's spin trio. The Kiwi team, which won the title of ICC World Test Championship, was seen dominating on many occasions in this match, but Team India kept the match exciting till the last over by making a strong comeback.

In the absence of Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer got a chance to make his Test debut. When he came to bat in the first innings, Team India had lost three wickets for 106 runs, while in the second innings when he came to the crease, India's score was three for 41 runs. The way he scored 105 and 65 under pressure on both occasions shows that Shreyas is not just made for white-ball cricket. Iyer is the first Indian batsman to score a century and a half-century in Test debut. Both his innings are more special because he took Team India out of pressure and took them to the winning position.

In the first innings, Axar Patel (5), R Ashwin (3), and Ravindra Jadeja (1) together took 9 wickets for New Zealand. The Kiwi team's score was one wicket for 197 runs at one point and it seemed that the visiting team would gain an edge over Team India based on the first innings, but Akshar and Ashwin together destroyed the intentions of the Kiwi team and the next All the other wickets were taken within 100 runs.

 

Ashwin leaves Bhajji behind

 

Before this match, Ashwin was at number four in terms of taking the most wickets in Test cricket for India. Harbhajan Singh had 417 wickets in his account and Ashwin had 413 wickets in his account. He had a stiff neck, but despite this, he came out to bat in the second innings and played an innings in pain that will be remembered for years. Saha played an innings of 61 not out off 126 balls and took the lead of Team India beyond 280 runs.

 

Tim Southee's strong bowling and Rachin Ravindra became a wall

 

Tim Southee's bowling will be remembered in this test match. Saudi took five wickets in the first innings and three wickets in the second innings. Tim Southee played an important role in troubleshooting Team India's top batting order. Apart from this, in the second innings, Rachin Ravindra played an innings of 18 not out off 91 balls. Rachin, along with Ajaz Patel, saved the match for New Zealand by playing more than 50 deliveries for the last wicket.
