Thanks to a brilliant century by Tony de Georgi (119*), South Africa defeated India by 8 wickets with 45 balls remaining in the second ODI played at Garebarha on Tuesday. India batted first and the entire team was bundled out for 211 runs in 46.2 overs.
In reply, South Africa achieved the target by losing 2 wickets in 42.3 overs. Georgi was adjudged Player of the Match for his maiden century. With this victory, the Proteas team leveled the three-match series 1-1. Remember that India had won the first ODI by 8 wickets. Now the decisive match between the two teams will be played in Paarl on Thursday.
Tony de Georgia's first ODI century
Chasing the easy target of 212 runs, South Africa got off to a good start with openers Reeza Hendricks (52) and Tony de Georgi (119*) making a partnership of 130 runs. In the 28th over, Arshdeep Singh broke this partnership by getting Hendricks caught out by Mukesh Kumar. Riza scored 52 runs in 81 balls with the help of 7 fours.
From here Georgi and Rassie Van der Dussen (36) made a strong partnership and took the host team closer to victory. Both made a partnership of 76 runs for the second wicket. Rinku Singh gave a second success to India by getting Dussain caught out by wicketkeeper Samson. Georgie and Aiden Markram (2*) sealed South Africa's victory.
Georgi scored an unbeaten 119 runs in 122 balls with the help of 9 fours and six sixes. For India, Arshdeep Singh and Rinku Singh got one wicket each.
bad condition of India
The Indian team, which accepted the invitation to bat first, had a very bad start. Ruturaj Gaikwad (4) was given out LBW by Burger on the second ball of the innings. Tilak Verma (10) also could not stay on the crease for long and returned to the pavilion after being caught by Byron Hendricks at fine leg on Burger's ball.
SAI Sudarshan (62) and captain KL Rahul (56) made a partnership of 68 runs for the third wicket. Williams got Sudarshan caught out by wicketkeeper Clausen. Sudarshan scored 62 runs in 83 balls with the help of seven fours and one six. From here the Indian innings started falling apart.
African bowlers dominate
India's middle order collapsed and surrendered to the South African bowlers. Sanju Samson (12) was clean-bowled by Buron Hendricks. Soon, KL Rahul was caught by Berger at the hands of Miller, and India was put on the backfoot.
After this, Rinku Singh (17), Kuldeep Yadav (1), Akshar Patel (7), Arshdeep Singh (18) and Avesh Khan (9) were out in quick succession. Nandre Berger took a maximum of three wickets for South Africa. Byron Hendricks and Keshav Maharaj got two wickets each. Lizard Williams and Aiden Markram took one wicket each.
