Students are marching to the State Secretariat (Nabanna Abhiyan) on Tuesday in protest against the incident of brutality with a junior female doctor in RG Kar Medical College Hospital. This campaign is being carried out under the banner of an organization called West Bengal Student Society. On the other hand, the state administration has made tight security arrangements to stop it.
Police surveillance at every nook and corner of the city
On Tuesday, 4,500-5,000 policemen have been deployed in and around Navanna. 21 police officers of IG and DIG rank have been given special responsibility for security. Apart from this, 13 police officers of SP and DSP rank, 15 officers of Additional Police Commissioner, and Additional Superintendent of Police rank have also been deployed. Kolkata's Howrah Bridge has been sealed. No vehicle is allowed to come and go.
Grease is being applied by civic volunteers on the check gates behind Fort William in Hastings, Kolkata so that protesters can be prevented from climbing the barricades. A march has been called to Nabanna today regarding the rape-murder case in RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
Trinamool Congress leader Kunal Ghosh has claimed that there is a big conspiracy behind the Navanna Abhiyan. He said that the BJP is behind this, which is doing blood politics. CPI(M) and Congress are also helping it. Kunal also released two videos, in which some people are talking about firing bullets and dropping dead bodies during the State Secretariat Abhiyan. Dainik Jagran has not checked the authenticity of these videos.
On the other hand, Union Minister of State and Bengal BJP President Sukanta Majumdar said that the Mamata government is afraid of the students' movement, so it is trying to suppress it. If any major incident happens during the students' movement, the state government will have to take responsibility for it.
What has Bengal Police said?
Additional Director General of Bengal Police Manoj Kumar Verma said- 'The area of the State Secretariat is a protected area. No application has been made by any organization to protest there. We have received intelligence that some miscreants may try to create unrest in the name of the campaign. There is also news that disturbances may be created by putting children and women in the front.
He further said that there is a UGC NET exam on Tuesday. There may be an attempt to disrupt that too. Our effort will be to ensure that the common people do not face any kind of trouble.
