New controversy in Karnataka: Banners outside temples asking non-Hindus not to set up shops; Administration said - this is not our order

The hijab controversy in Karnataka has not cooled down yet, and posters put up against a particular community are in the news. According to the news agency, a controversial banner has been put up in many temples of Karnataka, in which it has been written to Muslim organizations not to set up shops or stalls in the fairs held near the temples.

 

However, the committees handling the management of the temples have denied any such order. State Minorities Commission Chairman Abdul Azim said on Wednesday that talks are on with the temple administration about not allowing non-Hindus to set up shops, the matter will be resolved soon.

the right-wing group behind banners

 

After the refusal of the temple committees, the people who put up these banners could not be traced. However, according to media reports, members of right-wing Hindu groups may be behind this. Right-wing groups believe that Muslim organizations announced the closure of their shops after the court decided on the hijab controversy. That is why they should not be allowed to set up stalls in the annual fairs of temples.

 

Durgaparameshwari temple fair from April 20

 

The annual fair is to be organized on April 20 at Bappanadu Durgaparameshwari temple near the Mangalore district of Karnataka. The temple land will be auctioned for setting up stalls in the fair. Muslim organizations are prohibited from participating in this. Banners have been put up all around the temple, in which it has been said to allow only Hindus to set up shops and stalls.

 

Apart from Bappanadu Durgaparameshwari temple, a fair will also be organized at Mahalingeshwara temple in Puttur taluk. Similar banners were seen here with the words 'Those who do not respect the law and are against unity. Those who kill the cows we worship. They will not be allowed to set up shop.

 

Similar banners have also been seen in other temples including Mangaladevi Temple in Puttur, Polali Rajarajeshwari Temple.

 

Temple administration said - business is not banned

 

Seeing the matter gaining momentum, the temple administration presented a clarification. The administrator of the Durgaparameshwari temple, Manohar Sethi, said that the temple administration has not put up such banners. Some people have put up banners here without our permission. No one has been stopped from setting up shops and stalls in the fair.

 

Here, the chairman of the State Minorities Commission, Abdul Azim said that the matter will be resolved soon after sitting with the temple administration. He said, 'It is a decision taken in emotion. People of different religions run their businesses here.

 

Police said - this is an attempt to spoil the atmosphere

 

Mangaluru Police has started an investigation into this matter. The police are considering it as an attempt to disturb communal harmony. Mangaluru Police Commissioner Shashi Kumar said that who put up these banners is being investigated. If a citizen association files a complaint, the legal team will be consulted. He told that the Tehsildar is being sent to the spot. Further action will be taken based on their report.
