Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the meeting of G-20 Foreign Ministers on Thursday. During this, he said, "I welcome you to India for the G20 Foreign Ministers' meeting. This indicates the need for unity, a purpose, and unity of action.'' The Prime Minister said, ''I hope that your meeting today will reflect the spirit of coming together to achieve common and concrete objectives.'' '

Meeting on the theme of 'One Earth, One Family, One Future'

PM Modi said, “India has chosen the theme of 'One Earth, One Family, One Future' for its G-20 presidency. It shows the need for unity of purpose and unity of action. I hope that today's meeting will reflect the spirit of coming together to achieve common and concrete objectives.

'Developing countries have to bear the sad consequences'

The Prime Minister said that the financial crisis, climate change, pandemics, terrorism, and wars in the last few years clearly show that global governance has failed in both its mandates. We must also acknowledge that developing countries are suffering the most from the tragic consequences of this failure.

'India has tried to give voice to the Global South'

PM Modi said that the sad consequences of failed misgovernance are mainly being borne by developing countries. Many developing countries are struggling with food security, while rich countries are struggling with global warming. That's why India's G-20 Presidency has tried to give voice to the Global South.

'Many countries grappling with unsustainable debt'

PM Modi said that after years of progress, today we are in danger of going back toward Sustainable Development Goals. Many developing countries struggle with unsustainable debt while trying to ensure food and energy security for their people.

'Multilateralism is in crisis today

The Prime Minister said that we all must accept that multilateralism is in crisis today. The global governance architecture created after World War II was meant to accomplish two tasks, first—to prevent future wars by balancing competing interests, and second—to promote international cooperation on issues of common interest.

'Facing many crises'

External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar said that for the first time, we came together during a global crisis and today again we are facing many crises. These include the COVID pandemic, fragile supply chains, the effects of ongoing conflicts, concerns about the debt crunch, and disruptions from climate events.
