Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has said that madrassas should cease to exist. He said this while addressing the function in Delhi on Sunday. He said that as long as there are madrasas, children will not be able to think of becoming engineers and doctors.
Along with this, he said that if you want to give education related to religion to the children, then give it at home, for that it is not necessary to have a madrassa. Also said that our goal has always been to promote general education.
expressed concern about the future of the children
Biswa had reached an event on the 75th anniversary of 'Panchjanya' magazine on Sunday. During this, he was answering the questions of the former Vice-Chancellor of Maulana Azad University, Hyderabad, when he replied expressing concern about the future of the children regarding madrasas.
Will not be able to become an engineer or doctor
The CM said that the children going to madrassa are far behind in studies. This is affecting their future. Madrasa can be converted into a better educational institution for imparting education. Subjects like Science, Maths, and Bio-Science should be taught to the children so that they go ahead to become engineers, doctors, and professors. But as long as the word madrasa is there, the children will not be able to move forward. If they are told in advance that they will not be able to become an engineer or a doctor by going here, then they will refuse to go.
Teach Quran at home
He said- My appeal to everyone is that if you want to teach the Quran to children, then teach it at home, because there is no better place than home. For this, they don't need to be sent to madrassas. By sending children there from a young age, you are playing with their future. This is a violation of their human rights.
All Muslims in India were Hindus
A retired academic present in the program told that the children of the madrasa are very talented. They memorize every word of the Quran easily. At the same time, the CM said in response that all Muslims were Hindus first. No Muslim was born in India. Everyone in India was a Hindu. So if a Muslim child is extremely talented, it is because of the heritage of the Hindus.
However, in 2020, the Assam government decided to abolish all madrassas. After which the matter reached the Guwahati High Court.
