Gold and silver prices rose sharply on August 6, with both precious metals recording significant gains. According to the India Bullion and Jewellers Association (IBJA), the price of 10 grams of 24-carat gold increased by ₹2,814, reaching ₹1.48 lakh.

Silver also gained ground, with the price of one kilogram rising by ₹1,112 to ₹2.26 lakh.

The rally has been particularly notable during the first six days of August. Gold has become ₹5,580 more expensive, while silver has risen by ₹7,379 during the period.

Gold and Silver Prices Rise: What Is Driving the Rally?

Two key factors are supporting gold and silver prices.

1. Weak US Dollar Supports Precious Metals

A weakening US dollar is providing support to gold and silver. Since both commodities are internationally priced in dollars, a weaker US currency can make them relatively cheaper for buyers holding other currencies.

This can encourage demand and provide upward support to precious-metal prices.

2. Gold and Silver Remain Below Their Record Highs

Another factor supporting buying interest is that gold and silver prices remain well below their respective all-time highs recorded earlier this year.

On January 29, gold reached a record high of around ₹1.76 lakh per 10 grams, while silver touched approximately ₹3.86 lakh per kilogram.

The substantial decline from those peaks has encouraged some investors to return to precious metals, supporting prices in recent sessions.

Gold Price in 2026: Gold Up ₹15,000 So Far

Gold has recorded a significant increase so far in 2026.

On December 31, 2025, 10 grams of gold was priced at more than ₹1.33 lakh. The price has now climbed to around ₹1.48 lakh, representing an increase of approximately ₹15,000.

Silver, however, has moved in the opposite direction compared with its year-end level. Silver was priced at around ₹2.30 lakh per kilogram on December 31, 2025, compared with approximately ₹2.26 lakh currently, representing a decline of around ₹4,000.

Both metals experienced significant volatility during this period and reached their reported record levels on January 29.

Gold Price Forecast: Can Gold Reach ₹1.60 Lakh?

According to commodity expert Ajay Kedia, gold and silver have corrected considerably from their previous highs, prompting investors to show renewed interest in the precious metals.

Kedia has reportedly projected that gold could reach ₹1.60 lakh per 10 grams, while silver could rise to ₹2.80 lakh per kilogram by the end of 2026.

However, such forecasts are estimates rather than guaranteed price targets. Gold and silver prices can be affected by factors including the US dollar, interest rates, global economic conditions, geopolitical developments and investor demand.

Kedia has also advised investors to avoid making lump-sum investments in the current environment.

How to Invest in Gold and Silver Through ETFs

Investors who want exposure to gold or silver without buying physical metal can consider Exchange-Traded Funds (ETFs).

Gold and silver ETFs are designed to track the price movements of the respective precious metals. ETF units can be bought and sold on stock exchanges such as the BSE and NSE, similar to shares.

Unlike physical gold or silver, investors do not receive the metal itself. Instead, they hold ETF units whose value moves broadly in line with the underlying commodity.

How to Buy Gold and Silver ETFs?

To invest in ETFs, investors generally need a demat and trading account with a broker.

The basic process is:

Open a demat and trading account with a broker.

Search for the desired gold or silver ETF on the stock exchange.

Place a buy order through the trading account.

The purchase amount is debited from the linked bank account.

ETF units are credited to the demat account after settlement.

Investors can sell the units through their trading account when they want to exit.

The minimum investment depends on the ETF's market price and the number of units purchased, so investors should check the specific fund's current price and product details before investing.

Gold and Silver Price Outlook

Gold and silver have remained highly volatile in 2026, with both metals experiencing sharp gains and corrections.

Gold's recent move to ₹1.48 lakh per 10 grams and silver's rise to ₹2.26 lakh per kilogram highlight the renewed buying interest in precious metals. However, investors should remember that commodity prices can move sharply in either direction.

While some market experts expect further gains, price forecasts should not be treated as guaranteed returns. Investors should consider their risk tolerance, investment horizon and overall portfolio before making investment decisions.
