West Bengal SSC recruitment scam accused Partha Chatterjee has been stripped of his ministerial post amid demands to be expelled from the party. The West Bengal government gave this information on Thursday. An official order said that Partha Chatterjee has been removed from the cabinet with immediate effect. He has been removed as Minister of Commerce and Enterprise, Minister of Information Technology and Electronics, and Minister of Parliamentary Affairs with immediate effect. The state government said that Chatterjee has been relieved of his duties as the minister in charge of his departments with effect from July 28. That is, now he is not in charge of any department.
Meanwhile, officials said that West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has retained the industries and other portfolios of sacked minister Partha Chatterjee. According to Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials, around Rs, 50 crores in cash and gold have been recovered from the apartment belonging to Chatterjee. Apart from this, some properties and documents related to foreign exchange were also recovered, after which they were arrested.
The ruling Trinamool Congress had called a meeting to demand the expulsion of the arrested West Bengal minister Partha Chatterjee. The meeting was presided over by National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee, nephew of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Apart from being removed from the post of minister, there is a demand to expel him from the party. Hours before this decision, the party's state general secretary and spokesperson Kunal Ghosh had demanded the immediate removal of West Bengal minister Partha Chatterjee, who was arrested in connection with the SSC scam investigation, and also his immediate expulsion from the party.
Party spokesperson Ghosh tweeted at 9:52 am, "Parth Chatterjee should be immediately removed from the cabinet and all party posts. If my statement is found to be false, then the party has the right to remove me from all posts. I will continue to work like a soldier of Trinamool Congress." He later told reporters that he has full faith in Chief Minister Banerjee and Trinamool Congress national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee.
